Last season, Toyota asked fans across the country to make contributions to the Good for Footy Suggestion Box. The game’s biggest supporter wanted to know how we could make Australia’s favourite game more accessible and enjoyable for all. One of the suggestions was this ripper… “Bring young Aboriginal kids down from their communities to spend a day with their favourite players and to watch an AFL game”.
Well, the brand couldn’t bring an entire community to the MCG, but we could bring footy to the community! Toyota brought footy in all its glory to local indigenous communities with a Toyota Regional Live Site in Katherine in the Northern Territory.
Across two thrilling nights in July, while big games were streamed on the big screen, we provided footy-themed hospitality, plus special guests Aaron Davey, Shannon Motlop and local Darwin performer Jaxon De Santis. Together with the AFL, we kept the kids well occupied with a range of handball and kicking activities, helping to continue developing their love for the game.
It was an uplifting experience for all, not the least the Gemba crew. We couldn’t ask for a better group to work with, so a big thank you to the AFL NT & Katherine Community for their support in bringing the Toyota Live Site to life.
