GEMBA CERTIFIED CARBON NEUTRAL

in Cause

November 3, 2021

The UN Climate Change Conference presents the perfect opportunity to announce that the Tenka Group, including the Gemba & Turnstile businesses, has become a certified Carbon Neutral company.

It’s an important milestone for us. Working with leading climate action advocate ClimatePartner, we have measured and calculated the greenhouse gas emissions for 2021 across all offices and operations, via a detailed Corporate Carbon Footprint Assessment.

Now we’re pleased to announce that we have offset all our unavoidable emissions by investing in globally certified carbon offset projects. The staff across all offices of our operations came together to select the initiatives to support and we’re proud to be investing in Clean Oceans, Plastic Bank

Over 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans every year and at Plastic Bank collection points around the world, people exchange waste collected for money, food, drinking water and school fees. The project ensures less plastic ends up in the sea and the plastic collected is recycled to serve as a raw material for new products.

We’re also excited to announce that we have gone above and beyond in our emissions offset, by donating additional funds to other carbon reduction and environmental programs. Solar Energy Project in Namibia is contributing to the share of the country’s renewable electricity mix and improving the power supply for local communities. The Plant-a-Tree Conservation Program helps to restore Australia’s important biodiverse habitat for future generations, planting native trees or shrub species in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.

These investments are the latest demonstration of Tenka’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and our belief that the sport and entertainment industry must play a leadership role in emissions reduction. The business has committed to delivering an annual ‘Dividend to the Planet’, where 2% of company profits are invested into offsetting all unavoidable emissions and supporting effective environmental projects in the markets where we operate and around the world.

Tenka recognises the impact that climate change continues to have on the sport and entertainment landscape and we hold ourselves accountable for change. It’s our belief that we all have a responsibility to protect our one-and-only ‘home ground’ and that climate change must be addressed as a matter of urgency. We understand that as individuals and a group, we must continue to reduce our direct CO2 emissions and provide support to environmental projects.

This is a passion shared by numerous Tenka clients, from rights-holders to athletes and brands, and is another step on our journey towards a Net Zero future.

Boyd Hicklin, Director of Tenka said: “We’ve made a clear commitment through our annual ‘Dividend for the Planet’ and we’re determined to be part of the solution. I’m proud that Tenka supports such clear and tangible outcomes as becoming Carbon Neutral Certified. It’s been a learning journey and not as costly and time-consuming as one might think. The team at Climate Partner made it simple, transparent and affordable. I’d like to think that more businesses in our industry will go on similar journeys to play their part.”
