in Entertainment

December 4, 2020

Netflix may be the king, but there is a crowded chase pack of sport and entertainment streaming services battling for the hearts, minds and wallets of Australian consumers.

Gemba’s latest insights into the sport and entertainment streaming market show that:

  • Optus Sport has good traction among Soccer fanatics, ranking among the top 5 streaming services they can’t do without
  • Almost 20% of Australian streaming consumers are looking to cut back their monthly spend, and a further 70% are not likely to spend any more than their current levels – so competition for a place in the monthly bundle will continue to be high
  • A significant number of streamers routinely switch services on and off throughout the year as content is more or less relevant
  • Stan has a good foundation among Rugby Union fanatics as it launches Stan Sport with the rights (alongside Channel 9) for Wallabies and Super Rugby from 2021
